Research Cooperation

 

 

Improving Research Cooperation between Indonesia and Denmark

On March the 3rd 2011 Danish Water Forum participated in a workshop arranged by ITB, the Technical University in Bandung, Indonesia. ITB is the leading technical university in Indonesia. More than 50 lecturers, PhD Students and other students participated in the workshop.

The theme of the workshop was: Urban Water Management and climate change adaptation

From the Danish side the following participated:

  • Miriam Feilberg, Danish Water Forum: The Danish water sector and its services and research competencies

  • Birgit Paludan, Municipality of Greve: Improving water management and storm water control in urban surroundings near the capitol of Copenhagen

  • René K. Juhler, Researcher at GEUS - the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland: Research activities of GEUS, the "Danish view” on the challenges and possibilities within water resource protection and management.

From the Indonesian partners 14 presentations introduced various topics related to urban water management focusing on climate change adaptation, floods and storm water management. Among the presenters were:

  • Dr. Erdwan Kardena, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation, giving a keynote speech on improving urban water management

  • Prof. Dr. Ir. Indratmo Soekarno, Water Resources Development Center: ITB and the overview of research activities on water resources development

The workshop was opened with a keynote speech by Denmark’s Ambassador in Indonesia, Børge Petersen.

This workshop was the first step in a process leading towards more cooperation between researchers in Denmark and Indonesia. Next step will be a visit by Indonesian researcher to Denmark later in 2011.
